Message from the Chairman

Jeffry Stoddard

While pundits debate about whether the country’s economic downturn has rounded the corner, there is no mistaking the financial challenges facing our Nation. Higher education is also confronted with unprecedented funding challenges.

It is economic times like these that underscore the importance of private giving through the University of Idaho Foundation, Inc.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation distributed $17.7 million to scholarships and programs during the 2011 fiscal year. During that time, an additional 29 new endowments were created, bringing total individual endowments to 1,342.

The University of Idaho Foundation, Inc. is the state’s largest foundation in support of higher education. This past year assets increased by more than $21.4 million for a current total of $243 million. Of these assets, $191 million are managed in the pooled Consolidated Investment Trust, which posted an impressive 20.4 percent rate of return.

Such performance and stewardship reflects the sound guidance of the Foundation’s board of directors – passionate volunteers who are dedicated to increasing the resources available to the University of Idaho and prudently investing its endowment.

It is my honor to chair this exceptional organization. I thank each and every board member and the thousands of benevolent donors whose work and gifts provide the edge necessary for the University of Idaho to fulfill its mission as Idaho’s premier, land-grant university – the first choice for student success and statewide leadership.

Sincerely,

Jeffery Stoddard Signature
